Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, is a condition whereby your sweat glands produce too much sweat. It is a common condition which affects around 1 in 30 people in the population.

The condition can cause embarrassment in social situations and can be hard to manage. You may have this condition if you find that you are sweaty despite not being hot in temperature or are not currently active or exercising. Excessive sweating can happen from anywhere in the body, but is mostly seen from the under-arms or from the hands and feet. Whilst it can be a condition in it’s own right, sometimes Hyperhidrosis can be a side effect of anxiety, causing the sweat glands to be overactive.

For some people, hyperhidrosis may disappear over time or it may get worse. If you are the latter, it’s important to stay positive and know that your condition can be treated. Focusing on lifestyle factors you can change to help manage this condition can be important when dealing with excessive sweating. Limiting exposure to stress factors and partaking in mindful activities such as meditation and wellbeing exercises that help with anxieties or stress has found to be helpful.

A treatment that we offer in the clinics to target this concern, is anti-wrinkle injections. These injections use a protein which blocks the nerves that are responsible for your sweat glands, therefore reducing the amount of sweat that your body produces from these areas. You can find out more on our anti-wrinkle injection treatment page.
