If you’re a skincare enthusiast like us, then you’ve probably heard of TikTok’s latest skincare trend, skin flooding. This new technique is gaining popularity for its ability to instantly hydrate and plump up the skin. But what exactly is skin flooding, and should you be doing it too? In this blog post, we’ll explore everything you need to know about skin flooding, including its benefits, how to do it, and whether it works for dry skin. So, grab a cup of tea and let’s dive in!

What is Skin Flooding?

Skin flooding is a technique where you saturate your skin with a generous amount of a liquid skincare product, usually a hyaluronic acid serum. The goal is to provide your skin with an intense burst of hydration by allowing the product to penetrate deeper into the skin’s layers than it would otherwise. The technique involves applying several layers of the serum, allowing each layer to absorb fully before applying the next.

How to Skin Flood

To skin flood, you’ll need a hydrating serum, preferably one with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or niacinamide.

One: Start by cleansing your face as usual and patting your skin dry with a clean towel. Starting with a clean face is a must.

Two: Next, apply a pea-sized amount of the serum to the back of your hand and use your fingertips to gently press the product into your skin.

Three: Repeat this step until you’ve applied three to four layers of the serum, allowing each layer to absorb fully before applying the next.

Four: Apply your moisturiser.

Five: Like any other skincare routine, finish off with SPF.

The Benefits of Skin Flooding

Skin flooding can provide several benefits to your skin, including hydrating and plumping up the skin, improving skin texture and tone, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and helping your skin to better absorb other skincare products you apply. Thanks to its hydrating effect, skin flooding is also an excellent way to give your skin a natural healthy-looking glow!

Does Skin Flooding Work for Dry Skin?

Yes, skin flooding is an excellent technique if you have dry skin as it provides an intense burst of hydration. However, if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you may want to limit skin flooding to once or twice a week, as the technique can cause your skin to produce more oil. You may also want to opt for a lightweight, oil-free serum.

So, what’s the verdict?

By saturating your skin with a liquid serum, you can hydrate and nourish your complexion while also improving its texture and tone. So, if you’ve been feeling a bit dry and dehydrated want to achieve skin that looks and feels healthy, try giving the TikTok technique a try. Just be careful not layer too many products as it increases the risk of pilling – especially if you are using products made with silicones.
