Hormonal Acne

Acne by far is one the most common skin concerns that we get asked about at Simply Clinics. Acne can appear in many forms and be an effect of many causes, however one of the main ones that we come across is hormonal acne. This type of acne can often be diagnosed, as it is most prominent across the lower half of the face, around the chin, cheeks and jawline. Whilst acne is often seen in teenagers around puberty, acne can affect adults of all ages and many people well into their adult life experience hormonal acne breakouts, often around times such as menopause and menstruation.

Hormonal acne can take form in a number of different comedones, including blackheads and whiteheads, cysts and pustules and can be distressing to those experiencing it. This type of acne is also associated with a few medical conditions, such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and increased Androgen levels, so therefore it is important to address this with your GP if you are concerned.

Due to the nature of it, hormonal acne can be one of the most difficult to treat and often requires a few different methods to eradicate it fully. A combination of good quality home care products, in-clinic treatments and improved lifestyle changes often provide the best results. If you are suffering from hormonal acne, we recommend that you use medical grade skincare products.

Medical grade skincare contains higher active ingredients than high-street products so will be more effective at treating the acne and have incredible proven results. One amazing programme that we have seen great results with is the Obagi Medical Clenziderm system, which is formulated with Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid to keep acne under control. In addition to this, our Obagi Chemical Peels are amazing at transforming the skin and treating acne.
