As much as we love having natural fuller lips, brighter eyes, and a youthful appearance, in a previous blog post, we explained a common myth – that dermal fillers are permanent and cannot be reversed. Lip fillers will last between 6-12 months, or you have the option to choose to dissolve them at any given time after you have had your treatment.
What is dissolving filler treatment?
When you undergo a dissolving filler treatment, Hyaluronidase is injected which breaks down the filler.
Fun fact: hyaluronic enzymes naturally exist in our body at low levels, which causes the filler to break down over time, which is why they only last 6 to 12 months.
When getting a filler dissolved, you will be injected with Hyaluronidase to break down the filler.
Here are some of the reasons why you may choose dissolving filler treatment:
Change of mind
It is perfectly normal if you decide that you no longer want to keep your dermal filler. In some cases, you may not like the result of the treatment and would like to remove it to return to your normal lips.
Movement or spread of hyaluronic acid to other areas
Migration of the substance can happen due to the treated area being overfilled with filler, causing it to spread onto other neighbouring areas. This is where the common term ‘duck lips’ comes from, as filler that has migrated to above the lip can appear unnatural and unattractive in appearance.
Uneven result
It is normal for the first couple of days after your treatment to have uneven results whilst the hyaluronic acid settles in. However, if this occurs for a longer period, dissolving the filler may be necessary.
Allergic reaction
We discussed the complications of dermal fillers previously here, as on the rare occasion you may have allergic reactions to the filler product, leading to the filler needing to be dissolved.
Poorly trained practitioners
Injecting dermal fillers currently does not require a medical degree or any medical training. Therefore, many practitioners with little experience offer this treatment for a low price, which you may be tempted to try . Here at Simply Clinics, we have our incredible Dr Youssef who has over eight years of injecting experience and thousands of amazing transformations to show his talent. You can see more of his before and after’s here.
If you decide that it is time to say goodbye to your filler, here is the process to making sure you have a safe dissolving treatment:
Consultation
Dr Youssef will examine the treated area and discuss everything you need to know before the treatment if there are any risks and post-treatment recommendations.
Patch test
Being allergic to the Hyaluronidase enzyme is possible, which is the substance used to dissolve the filler. Therefore, a patch test is required to ensure there are no signs of allergy.
Procedure
Numbing cream is applied, followed by the dissolving injection containing Hyaluronidase enzyme to the treated areas.
Post-treatment
Dr Youssef will discuss any post-treatment recommendations that you may need to ensure no complications occur.
