Teeth Grinding

Bruxism is a condition in which the teeth grind, clench or gnash together. It can cause many distressing problems such as jaw pain, headaches, wearing away of tooth enamel, disturbed sleep and chipped teeth. While teeth grinding can often be linked to stress and anxiety, the cause is not always clear and could be for a number of different reasons. Other factors which could be related are sleep problems such as snoring and sleep apnoea, certain medications including antidepressants, smoking, drinking and drug use.

There are a number of different ways you can try and help ease the symptoms related to bruxism (teeth grinding). If it is stress and anxiety that is the cause, breathing exercises, meditation and wellness exercises may help to reduce stress. If the teeth grinding has led to jaw pain or swelling, then taking painkillers or using an ice pack on your jaw can help to relieve these symptoms.

An alternative, effective treatment to Bruxism is Anti-Wrinkle Injections. They can be used to treat jaw clenching and teeth grinding very effectively. Botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscle (the jaw), weakening the muscles, preventing grinding and any clenching of the jaw. Since botulinum toxin is a natural toxin, when injected in small amounts by an experienced practitioner it is safe to use.
