Here at Simply Clinics we’re loving the rise of body positivity, being confident in your own skin and celebrating your body, no matter its imperfections. However, there are some common skin concerns that have had a huge impact on the generation today and in turn, effected the beauty and aesthetics industry.

Cellulite, is one of them. As such a common condition due to genetics, diet and natural body fat storage, despite the increase in accepting our bodies – you are not alone in wanting your cellulite gone! Studies show that 87% women in the UK are in the same boat as you and would like to minimise their cellulite. Due to this, there has been a huge amount of ‘cellulite-busting’ products advertised over the last few years.

Let’s look further into what cellulite really is and the non-invasive ways of getting reducing it:

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a term for the dimpled and lumpy appearance of the flesh, typically on the thighs, hips and abdomen. It’s most common in adolescent and adult women and is a result of fat cells pushing through the connective tissue beneath the skin.

The reason women struggle with the commonly called ‘orange-peel skin’ more than men, is because they have different distributions of muscle, fat, and connective tissues. Collagen fibres and fat cells are intertwined in a net-like structure in men, while these fibres are parallel in women, making their subcutaneous tissues less stable. As a result, fat cells tend to pass between the collagen fibres and emerge at the surface; the fat bulges through, giving skin the appearance of dimpled flesh.

Around the age of 25, cellulite becomes more common in women and can also be more prevalent in those who don’t partake in regular exercise, or gain large amounts of weight. However, since women naturally have a higher percentage of body fat than man, there’s no surprise that cellulite becomes more prominent as women get older and it is a completely natural skin condition that should not be worried about, nor deemed as unnatural or uncommon. We all (well, most of us) have it ladies!

This isn’t saying that males cannot also get cellulite – men can develop this when they suffer from a lack of androgens. Genetic predisposition, hormones and an unhealthy lifestyle can all contribute to the likelihood of cellulite but luckily for them, they tend to have it way less than women.

So can we get rid of cellulite completely? There are many ways you can massively reduce the appearance of cellulite, but it does tend to be something that comes and goes in correlation with weight loss or gain. Here are our tips below to help reduce it as much as you can;

Nutrition

A balanced and healthy diet will not only help reduce excess body fat, but it can massively help reduce cellulite. Having an all-rounded, healthy diet will ensure you’re receiving the right amount of nutrients and vitamins to stay healthy from the inside out. A moderated diet where you consume a well-balanced variety of foods will satisfy your cravings and ensure you’re satiated for longer – reducing the risk of over-eating. Therefore, your calorie intake is encouraged to be lower than your expenditure which will lead to fat loss = reduced cellulite. Try thinking about cellulite in a physical sense – it’s fat pushing through skin layers. Therefore, reduced fat, is reduced cellulite!

Exercise

Exercise and staying active has more than just a handful of benefits, but helping to reduce your cellulite is one. Exercising will increase your daily calorie expenditure and coinciding with a healthy, moderated diet, this can lead to reduced fat.

If you’re someone who is new to exercise, try introducing yourself slowly and steadily through exercise such as yoga, walking or jogging. Weight training is incredibly effective when it comes to increasing muscle mass and reducing fat.Try working hard on increasing your lower body muscle percentage within your glutes and and your hamstrings through weight training and lower body focused exercises. Over the last few years, weight-training has been on the rise as the results of this will help to reduce fat cells and tighten connective tissues! If it means having sculpted legs and smooth, perky glutes – we’re in!

Non-Invasive 3D Lipo

Despite the above being the main ways to combat cellulite, you can also opt for a quick way to help reduce it. If you’re looking for a non-invasive solution that can help you target cellulite effectively, our 3D Lipo treatment uses skin rolling technology combined with a vacuum to target cellulite. Used specifically on areas of the body where cellulite collects, it’s pulsing and compression waves break down the pockets of fat cells.
