Lip Filler is one of the most in-demand treatments in the aesthetics world. When done correctly, lip filler can transform your look and balance your facial profile beautifully. As the demand for the treatment grows, so does the availability of practitioners offering it, who each have their different styles and methods of injecting. Whilst some methods are arguably better than others, it is always recommended to choose a medical professional to perform your aesthetics treatments. This will mean that they are more equipped and prepared to deal with any complications if they arise.

At Simply Clinics, our Doctor has over eight-years of aesthetics experience, so you will be in safe hands with us! Dr. Youssef Haffar specialises in natural, undetectable aesthetics and uses the Cannula method to perform his lip filler treatments. In this blog post, we’ll explain the Cannula method in more detail so you can be aware of the benefits…

How is it performed?

Unlike regular sharp needles, a cannula needle is longer and has a blunt, rounded end. Prior to treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied, meaning that any discomfort will be minimal. The lips are then filled using one entry point which is outside of the lip’s border. This allows the practitioner to fill the lips from this one entry point and avoid multiple injection sites, unlike traditional lip filler methods. The lip filler that we use at Simply Clinic is Restylane Kysse, which provides the most natural, undetectable results. Check out our lip filler treatment page for more information about how Dr Youssef treats his clients.

What are the benefits of using the Cannula method?

  • Reduced Risk

As the Cannula needle has a blunt, rounded tip, this means that it is unable to pierce arteries and is less likely to pierce blood vessels than regular needles. This is due to the fact that it pushes past veins and blood vessels in the skin’s layer as the filler is injected. As with any injectable treatment, there is always a risk of complications, one of the most serious ones being a Vascular Occlusion. This happens when the needle pierces a blood vessel and the filler is accidentally injected into it. This can result in very serious complications if left untreated which is why we always encourage clients to choose an experienced medical professional for your treatments. Whilst the risk of an Occlusion happening is low, the cannula method helps to minimise the risk even further.

  • Less Downtime

Due to there only being one entry-point for the cannula needle, this typically means that patients will have less bruising and swelling after their treatment. Whilst no bruising and swelling can ever be guaranteed, the likelihood of this happening with this method is low. This means that you can often experience less downtime. In contrast, when a regular sharp needle is used to fill the lips, the chance of bruising and swelling is often a lot higher, as more trauma is inflicted to the skin tissue due to the multiple injection sites.

  • Greater Flexibility

Cannulas are long and thin in shape, which allows greater movement and flexibility when they are injected into the skin. The length and flexibility of the Cannula means that they are able to spread the filler further and smoother than a regular needle would be able to. This also can help to prevent lumpiness and uneven lips which can sometimes occur when a regular needle is used.

What are the results like?
