We keep harping on about the autumn months dawning upon us and this weather at the moment is making it loud and clear. We get it. Rain, wind, more rain. Gone are the days of BBQ’s (up to 6 people only, obvs) and sunbathing in our back gardens with a glass of vino. It’s time for nights-in, movies, hot chocolates and a whole lotta’ Netflix. So, with that being said, here’s our top tips covering skincare recovery, a Netflix guide and some warming recipes – a full Sunday Self-Care Guide which can obviously be applied 7 days a week, as if like me, you’ll be hibernating for the foreseeable.
Sunday Skincare – ultimate winter skin recovery
Our skin goes through a lot. Not only is it battling a season change and having to fight agains the elements, it also has to combat bacteria, excess oils and sebum as we go in and out of the hot and cold, which can cause our skin to yo-yo between drying out followed by sweating out as we crank the heating up to full force. It’s a lot to take in! So lets go through our favourite skincare recovery products and ways we can bring our skin back to health.
Starting with a hydrating mask – our skin tends to lack hydration more than anything during the winter, especially when central heating is switched on. Our favourite hydrating masks include ingredients such as Vitamin C and other oils, like in Beauty Pie’s Moisture Mask.. Retailing at a price of £12.13 for members, this mask includes J-Beauty Jabara vitamin C, Grape Extract and Yuzu Ceramide-loaded to offer intensive hydration. Another A Grade mask is Origin’s Drink Up Intensive Avocado & Swiss Glacier Water Overnight Mask. £22 for this bad boy that includes Hyaluronic Acid, Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Vitamins A, D & E.
If you find cream masks a bit fiddly or if you are too lazy to wipe them off after 10 minutes, then a Hydrating Sheet Mask can be equally as effective. Combat hydration issues and blemish concerns with Pixi Beauty’s Glycolic Sheet Masks. Containing Aloe Vera and Ginseng to give your skin the glow, these masks
Stick your mask onto cleansed skin, before following with your serums, moisturisers and oils. Face Theory’s Organic Face Oil is incredibly nourishing for the skin. At only £11.99 it’s a great buy! Oil on- time to cook something up for your movie marathon!
Comforting Skin Food – eating your way to great skin
We’ve covered the fatty acids to put on top of your skin, but now lets cover the Omega’s you need to eat! Cook up a storm for a cosy night in and include the essential vitamins and fatty acids that make your skin glow from the inside out. We love cooking up a salmon dish – rich in flavour but includes essential fats that help to reduce inflammation in the skin, seals moisture and decreases appearance of dry, flaky, red skin. Here are some of our favourite skin foods;
- Salmon & fatty fish
- Nuts & seeds
- Wholegrains
- Red meat
- Pulses
- Avocados
We love BBC Good Food for recipes – providing plenty of variety for weekdays and weekends. Then, once the healthy main meal is out the away, it’s time for the good stuff. Make sure you’ve got a good stash of treats. Popcorn (great source of fibre), pick & mix, chocolate and of course some ice cream. It’s all about balance, right?!
What you need to watch on Netflix…
We’re still in this bizaree half-Lockdown limbo and it seems like all we do apart from eat and do our 10 step skincare routine, is watch Netflix. So lets run through the best series on Netflix at the moment, from crime series and thrillers to heart-wrenching rom-coms. We’ve got you covered for the next few weeks!
- The Fall – ultimate crime/thriller series, featuring Gillian Anderson who has to be one of the best actresses out there these days. Hooked after a few episodes and it features the actor who played Christian Grey.. Say no more!
- Greys Anatomy – I know this is a golden oldie but if you’ve not seen this series before, you have to start from the very beginning. We might cry at every other episode, but this series has it all. Humour, drama, serious topics. It also has 15 seasons and is still going in 2020 so you will be occupied for a long while…
- Money Heist – for those out here that like series based off organised crime, this one’s for you. It’s an incredibly clever series that will leave you baffled on how you don’t see things coming. Watch in Spanish with English subtitles for the true experience. 10/10
- Friends – Yes, we may have watched all 10 seasons from start to finish during Lockdown and yes, we may be going back to the beginning to start all over again. Proper belly laughing comedy. Cannot go wrong.
- The Sinner – is there a theme here, or are we just a little strange? We seem to like a lot of thrillers. There are three series, each as good as the last with some major red herrings, all about the human mind and the crazy places it can send us!
- Ozark – another crime related series, based on a young family who become money launderers for the cartel. With multiple famous faces, it’s an incredible watch!
