Skincare is always important, but with the sun being the skin’s worse enemy your summer skincare is especially important to get right.
The weather can have a huge impact on our skin, while the winter months strip our skin from its natural moisture, summer can also impact the skin negatively. During the summer months your skin will need extra care to ensure it is protected from the sun.
To keep your skin healthy during summer whilst also being able to keep up your tan, we have come up with some top tips for you to follow!
-
Keep your skin hydrated!
Hot weather can decrease the amount of water in your body and cause dehydration. This can leave the skin irritated, red or dry. Keeping your skin hydrated is key at all times when the sun’s out. It’s important to drink lots of water, at least 2 – 3 litres a day to help keep your skin hydrated.
-
Apply sunscreen often
Even if you don’t take anything else from this blog, make sure you listen to this one! The most important thing you can do to help your skin from burning, ageing or even skin cancer, is to protect it from the sun. Make sure you are regularly applying sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and applying it to your lips as well. The sun can dry out our lips and leave them cracked and pigmented, so keep them moisturised at all times! Finding an SPF that doesn’t pill or clog will also help to avoid breakouts on your face this summer.
-
Lighten your moisturiser
During the summer months your skin will not be as dry as in winter as hot temperatures and humidity can also result in your skin becoming more oily and greasy. Therefore, using a lighter moisturiser instead of a heavy one is best for the summer. We recommend using a moisturiser that is formulated with hyaluronic acid which keeps the skin hydrated without clogging pores.
-
Make sure you exfoliate
Exfoliating is a key step in your skincare routine, especially in summer. The extra sweat and constant sunscreen on your skin can all contribute to clogging your pores. While it’s a good idea to exfoliate more often in the summer to remove the excess dirt, sweat, SPF and oil, it’s important not to overdo it. We recommend exfoliating one to two times a week in the summer months. Remember to be careful if you are burnt as exfoliating can further irritate the burnt skin.
-
Add Antioxidants to your skincare routine
If you aren’t really sure what antioxidants are, now’s the time to get to into them! They are naturally occurring vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, C and E which help to protect your skin from damage. Not only do they protect your skin but that can also brighten skin, smooth fine lines and calm irritation too. A good antioxidant serum should be incorporated into your summer skincare routine. They are great at hydrating your skin when the sun is out. A Vitamin C serum would be a good option as it can help reduce the pigmentation caused by harmful UV rays from the sun.
If you’re struggling from dry skin at Simply Clinics we offer treatments such as our incredible Geneo+ superfacials which can help hydrate the skin and leave you glowing! Add RadioFrequency to this treatment for additional skin tightening. We also offer Mesotherapy add-on option with our Microneedling treatment which helps to stimulate natural production of collagen and new cell growth – all great for skin rejuvenation!
Another skin issue that can be caused by the sun is pigmentation. If pigmentation is an issue for you, there are a couple of treatments which work wonders at reducing it. Chemical peels are one of the most effective skin treatments that we offer which helps to combat a number of skin concerns including pigmentation, by exfoliating the skin on a deep level, leaving the skin revived.
