Why does hair exist on any part of our body/face other than our head? It really has no purpose.
Hair on our head adds to our beauty – hair anywhere else, does the opposite.
There may have been a time, way back in the day when some fuzz here and there wasn’t such an issue but those days are long gone!
Getting rid of unwanted hair is a terrible inconvenience and sometimes painful process. We have a number of options to choose from, each method comes with its own pros and cons. What works for one person may not suit the other at all.
Let’s take a look at 5 ways to remove unwanted hair, ranked from worst to best:
1) Shaving
Despite shaving being a very convenient method of ‘removing’ hair, it’s by far the worst. Why? Well, your hair is never really ‘removed’ it’s just trimmed. Our hair is the thinnest at its tips; as we shave, we trim off the thinner ends to expose thick, darker hair. Shaving also tends to leave the skin feeling rough and bumpy, especially for those with sensitive skin. If you suffer from conditions such as keratosis pilaris, stay away from shaving!
2) Waxing
The obvious downside to waxing is that it hurts. Also, you’ll have to put aside some money every month or so to buy wax strips or visit the salon. Waxing is generally a good way to remove hair since the hair is removed from the follicle and takes longer to grow back. The hair that does grow is much thinner so the need to wax reduces with time.

3) Depilatory cream
Depilatory creams are relatively painless, you may experience a slight tingling sensation while the cream is on but other than that the process is usually pain-free. In this method, the hair is not removed from the follicle but the growth tends to be slower than shaving but continuous use of the creams can cause the skin to darken.
4) Electrolysis
Electrolysis was the ultimate hair removal method a couple of decades back because of its ability to extract the hair from the follicle and leave the skin feeling silky smooth.
It involves using a mild current on the hair follicles to remove the hair permanently. Multiple sessions of electrolysis are needed to ensure that all the hair is removed. The process can be pricey but it got the job done!
5) Laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is a god-send! All you need is a few sessions with an experienced skin therapist and you’ll be hair free for life. The procedure is painless and hair regrowth is rare.
After the initial 4-6 sessions are over, you may just need to session every 6-12 months or so to remove any growth. Laser hair removal may be more expensive than other methods but it’s a one-time cost and totally worth it!
