Laser Hair Removal continues to be one of the most popular treatments for removing hair. It’s definitely grown in popularity over the last few years, as it comes with a huge number of benefits. You’ll be able to save money as you won’t need any more monthly wax appointments. Laser hair removal completely destroys hair follicles, eliminating painful ingrown hairs and requiring no maintenance—hair simply stops growing!
If you’re unfamiliar with laser treatments, it can seem technical and may require research. We’re here to provide all the details on laser hair removal, what to expect during your treatment, and where to have it done! For more information, check the full article here.
Before Laser Hair Removal
There are a few things you need to consider before having your laser treatment done. Firstly, choosing your area. The most popular areas to be treated tend to be the legs, bikini area, and the armpits, however, you can have laser on your whole body.
See below for all the different areas you can choose from – each number is a separate area, which ranges from your upper and lower face, all the way down to the lower leg.
Ensure your skin is its natural colour before treatment—avoid fake tan, sun exposure, and sunbeds for 4-6 weeks. Sun exposure changes your skin’s pigment, affecting laser settings, which could lead to burns if incorrect. Following pre-treatment advice is essential for safety!
Before the treatment
Before the treatment, you need to ensure your skin is prepared. When deciding to go ahead with laser, you must ensure that the only way your hair is removed beforehand, is through shaving. No waxing, epilating or plucking! Shave the area that is being treated at least 24 hours before and ensure your skin is free of fake tan, nor been exposed to the sun in the last few weeks. To your appointment, wear loose fitted clothing and don’t apply any creams before your appointment.
With our laser hair removal machines, you can treat any skin type as long as the hair is darker than your skin tone. If your hair isn’t suitable, this will be discussed with you at the patch test consultation. We have a great video testimonial from one of our clients with darker skin, over on our laser page, here.
During the treatment
Many people wonder if laser hair removal hurts. At Simply Clinics, we use Lumenis Lightsheer Duet & Infinity systems, known for their effectiveness.
These machines use suction technology to draw the skin into the laser handpiece, minimizing pain. Additionally, the handpiece features a chill tip that cools the skin during treatment. We also apply ice packs beforehand, further reducing discomfort.

After the treatment
Make sure you don’t put creams or tight clothes on straight after treatment, leaving air to get to the treated area. Some hydrating creams can be used, however, so check with your therapist which ones are suitable. You will also need to avoid hot showers, heat or exercise for at least 48 hours after your appointment. Depending on where you have your laser, you may have to avoid having your usual facial treatments such as microneedling or microdermabrasion. This will all be discussed with your therapist during your treatment.
Between each appointment
It’s very important to make sure you follow all the right procedures in between your laser appointments! When you’re having treatment, you are able to remove your hair as much as you want, however it must be by shaving only. Once again, make sure you avoid exposing your skin to the sun, fake tanning, or sun beds at least 4 weeks before each appointment.
Extra Info
The number of sessions you need will vary depending on your hair, as some grows faster and thicker than others. Your therapist will be able to give you a rough indication of this at your patch test appointment.
