With Christmas only 2 months away, winter is just around the corner. While we’re all excited for cosy nights in, hot chocolate and ice-skating, there is something we aren’t looking forward to – our skin drying out. In this blog we are going to be giving you our best tips for preventing dry skin this winter!

So let’s get into it…

Unfortunately, this festive season can cause our skin to suffer. Dry skin, chapped lips and breakouts are all common in the colder months. But why is this? The cold weather and low humidity can make our skin feel tighter and dehydrated, which when left untreated it can cause our skin to crack and bleed. This is particularly common if you are someone who suffers from eczema or other dry skin conditions. You may find that your skin condition flares up during this period.

It’s not just the weather that can cause our skin to dry out – central heating can also add to making your skin more dehydrated. Luckily we have some tips for you to help reduce breakouts, dryness, redness and sensitive skin and lips.

1. Keep hydrated

With dry skin being a top skin concern in the winter, it’s important to make sure you are drinking enough water and keeping yourself hydrated. While moisturisers and serums are important for hydrating the skin, water is just as essential! Water does great things to our bodies and skin. It encourages production of collagen and flushes toxins out of your body. Make sure you are drinking at least 2 litres a day to keep your skin looking fresh.

2. SPF

Just because the sun’s not out, doesn’t mean that you should forget to wear SPF. Sunscreen should be a crucial part of your skincare routine all year round! It’s important that you are wearing SPF everyday, even during the winter months as UV rays (which cause sun damage and skin ageing) is present all year round, no matter the weather. During winter it’s especially important to be wearing an SPF containing Hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient to help with skin hydration.

3. Reduce exfoliating

While exfoliation is helpful for removing dead skin cells, it is possible to over-do it. If your skin becomes much more dry in the winter then you may want to choose a gentle chemical exfoliant rather than a physical scrub as these are harsher on the skin and can cause damage to your skin’s moisture barrier. But if your skin is already cracked or bleeding, it’s best to avoid exfoliation completely until your skin has healed.

4. Facials

To help maintain your skin’s summer glow, it’s recommended to get a facial every 5-6 weeks. This can help to combat dullness as well as keeping your skin hydrated. At Simply Clinics we offer GeneO+ Superfacials which help to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

We are also offering a new treatment, the Hydrafacial, which work wonders to hydrate the skin and improve overall skin health. They are great for waking up dull, flaky winter skin!

HydraFacial for dry winter skin

How do they work? Hydrafacials are a 6-step facial treatment which work to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin. Perfect to rejuvenate the skin when it is starting to dry up.

Not only do they help with dry skin, but a whole list of other concerns can be addressed. From fine lines & wrinkles to helping with the overall skin texture.

The treatment starts with a lymphatic drainage treatment which helps to increase circulation and free the skin of toxins. Then, all dead skin cells and impurities are removed to leave a new layer of skin on the surface. The next step uses a glycolic and salicylic solution which is applied to the skin and any areas of congestion. During this step, blackheads are extracted to help prevent a build up of dirt and sebum in the pores. The skin is then hydrated using a hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants. The final stagesof the Hydrafacial uses LED light to stimulate collagen and elasticity, reducing redness of the skin and any inflammation.

Want to know another reason why we love this treatment? Personalised boosters can be added to the treatment to target specific skin concerns. Whether it’s ageing skin, redness or wrinkles you are looking to reduce, the bespoke boosters can help to achieve this.
