Have you looked in the mirror recently and noticed some changes to your face? This could mean it’s the start of the ageing process. So, let’s take a look at how your skin is going to change as you get older…
In your 20s…..
Good news, you start loosing your ‘baby fat’ and your womanly features begin to show. Bad news, this also marks the start of the ageing process as it is when your collagen and elastin production begins decline. One thing to look out for in your 20s is sun damage. You might think it’s cool to be a sun-worshipper, but when your skin has extensive skin damage and hyper pigmentation, it won’t be so fun! Dark spots may begin to appear on your face, usually on the cheeks and forehead. Exposure to the sun can also cause the formation of lines around your eyes (crow’s feet). Don’t worry – there are ways to reduce the appearance of sun damage such as ensuring you are wearing SPF everyday to prevent any further damage.
In your 30s…..
With the increasing decline of collagen and elastin, you will find that fine lines become more noticeable, your skin can become duller and even begin to loosen in areas. Your face appears more mature due to a decline in hyaluronic acid which causes a loss in skin elasticity. Blood vessels also become more visible and can show up around the nose, cheeks and under your eyes. It’s not all doom and gloom though! If you start increasing your use of retinoids and active ingredients, whilst combining this with every day SPF wear, you can retain your youth easily! It’s also now the time to book in for regular facials and advanced skin treatments, to maintain your skin health!
In your 40s…..
This is the time when you may begin to see the most drastic changes, with loss in volume, wrinkles and sagging skin being the most common concerns. You might find your skin is becoming increasingly dull and loose, as this is when your skin’s repair process becomes slower. Your skin also becomes drier as your natural oil production slows down. If if you are someone who has always struggled with oily skin, you may find that your skin type becomes drier and even flaky. If this is the case, then hydrating, nourishing products are your best friend! Beautiful skin oils and creamy based moisturisers are the products for you, whilst ensuring you are regularly using a strong retinol.
The above ageing processes might sound scary, and unfortunately, there is no way to stop the process of ageing. However, there are steps we can take to reduce the signs! As your skin begins to age and change, you can alter your skincare routine focusing on hydrating the skin to retain any moisture that is lost. Switching to a thicker moisturiser will also help prevent the skin from drying out, whilst increasing the use of retinol will also help to keep your skin looking fresh.
Other ways to get younger-looking skin can be through advanced skin and aesthetic treatments. These treatments can help to replenish the loss of collagen and elastin in the skin.
Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are an obvious choice to help restore a youthful face. Anti-wrinkle injections provide an easy fix to those pesky lines and wrinkles. The most common areas for anti-wrinkle injections are; forehead, frown lines, smile lines and crow’s feet.
Dermal fillers on the other hand, help to add volume to areas lost and can bring more shape to the face. Hyaluronic acid based fillers are great as they help to hydrate, plump, improve tone and texture and reduce signs of ageing. The most common areas for dermal fillers used to combat the signs of ageing are; lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds and marionettes. It’s important to point out that neither of these treatments are permanent, however, if appointments are made regularly then the effects will last.
If needles aren’t your thing, then don’t worry there’s a whole list of skin treatments which have equally great results!
You might have heard about the Hydrafacial, but do you know how it can help ageing skin? The Hydrafacial is the ultimate skin treatment. It allows you to choose personalised boosters to help combat your skin concern. For ageing skin, the Hydrafacial Regen GF Booster is incredibly effective for boosting collagen and elastin production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and removing toxins and irritants from the skin.
If you’re someone who also struggles with sun damage, then Hydrafacials are also the treatment for you! To help with minimising sun damage around the eyes (crow’s feet), Hydrafacials can be very effective.

Microneedling is another amazingly effective skin treatment to help boost both collagen and elastin – two huge components for great skin health. It works by using tiny needles which puncture the skin, causing it to believe it is injured. This encourages new healthier skin full of collagen and elastin to come to the surface.

To help combat red blood vessels, Thermavein is a treatment which works to remove these burst blood vessels on the face. Whilst they are harmless, many clients wish to get them removed which can be done through a process of thermo-coagulation, which seals the vein walls and causes them to permanently disappear.
