Acne scars are made of fibrous tissue caused by skin damage.
Dermapen creates tiny micropunctures on the skin which the body treats as small wounds. It increases the production of collagen. The collagen breaks down the fibrous tissue and replaces it with regular tissue leaving your skin revitalized and blemish-free!

If you were one of those teenagers who had acne and couldn’t keep your hands off your face, you’re likely stuck with dark scars that just won’t go away.

Popping acne pimples damages the skin from within, leaving it scarred for decades. You can try to lighten them with hyperpigmentation creams but they aren’t as effective as you would like them to be.

Lightening stubborn acne scars involves advanced procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and micro-needling (Dermapen).

Before getting into how Dermapen treatment helps with acne scars, it’s important to understand what acne scars are.

What Are Acne Scars?

When your skin is damaged, your body replaces the original skin with fibrosis – fibrous tissue. Acne scars are a result of damaged skin. Other than some minor cuts, most wounds (surgeries, accidents, etc) on your skin will leave a mark. Our skin consists of a protein called collagen and although scar tissue is also made out of collagen, it contains a very different composition.

Healthy skin tissue has a “basket weave” of collagen but the collagen in scar tissue is aligned in a straight direction; as a result it appears thicker than regular skin.

You can get acne scars for many reasons such as picking acne pimples, hormone imbalances, poor diet, allergies and environmental factors.

How Dermapen (micro-needling) helps

Dermapen has been used to lighten acne scars for many years now. Micro-needling technology breaks up the fiberous tissues and stimulates the growth of new, healthier tissue.

The process of micro-needling creates micro-punctures on the face. Our body treats these micro-punctures as small wounds and responds by increasing the production of collagen. The breakdown of fibrosis and the production of collagen leads to the healing of the skin.

How many sessions does it take?

The number of Dermapen session depends entirely on the thickness amount and the type of scars you have. For more severe cases, at least 5-6 sessions will needed over the course of 5-6 months.

When will I notice the results?

You will begin seeing the results in around 6 weeks after the session but the complete results can be seen after 3 months.

At Simply Clinics, we offer Dermapen (micro-needling) appointments for single-sessions and packages of 3 sessions and 6 sessions. All our non-invasive cosmetic treatments are offered at affordable prices.
