What are thread veins?
Thread veins, sometimes called spider veins because of their appearance, are tiny broken blood vessels, or capillaries, that show through the skin as wavy red lines. Unlike varicose veins, thread veins do not bulge but they can be unsightly, especially if they appear in a cluster which can look like bruising.
Everyone will have some thread veins eventually but they are more obvious on pale skin. They can appear anywhere but frequently develop on the backs of the thighs and across the nose and cheeks.
Thread veins are caused when the tiny valves in your veins stop working properly and allow the blood to flow backwards. This backflow increases the volume of blood causing the vein to bulge and burst. The evidence of this can be seen in the blue or red lines on the surrounding skin.
Risk factors for broken capillaries
There are many risk factors for the development of broken capillaries and thread veins. They include a genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, extremes of temperature and exposure to the sun, alcohol consumption, skin trauma, poor circulation and a sedentary lifestyle.
How are thread veins and spider veins treated at the Hammersmith clinic?
We use Thermavein for removing thread veins as we think that it provides the best results for our clients.
During this treatment, the technician applies an electric current to the thread vein using a tiny probe. The heat from the electric charge seals the vein and breaks down the capillaries, causing the thread vein to fade immediately.
An average treatment session lasts about half an hour, but the duration depends on the size of the treated area and the number of veins. Thermavein is a suitable treatment for facial thread veins and veins on the legs and body.
You can see before and after treatment pictures of Simply Clinics clients here.
Will my thread veins come back after treatment in Hammersmith?
Treatment with Thermavein gives permanent results on the veins treated after just one session.
If you develop more thread veins in the future, you can have more treatments.
Is vein removal painful?
Our medical doctors are highly experienced at delivering this therapy and our clients do not report pain. There may be some irritation if your skin is particularly sensitive but aloe vera is usually sufficient to calm the affected area.
What is the cost of vein therapy in Hammersmith?
Thermavein treatment starts at £200. Check out our new client offers here.
