Is waxing better than shaving?

Waxing is an effective method of hair removal and can be a great alternative to shaving. In as little as 15-30 minutes waxing can leave you free from body hair without any down time.

Shaving cuts hair close to skin level, whereas waxing removes hair from the root. Instead of reaching for the razor two or three days later, waxing allows you to experience smooth, hair free skin for longer.

How long does waxing last for?

Generally, you can expect the results of your waxing treatment to last 4-6 weeks. However results may differ for each individual. Some people experience a small amount of regrowth after a week or two, and it can take up to four treatments to see less regrowth over time.

Our trained therapists will work with you to develop a tailored treatment plan that will help you achieve the best results. On average, to maintain a smooth appearance, we recommend waxing every four weeks.

Does waxing hurt?

At the Southgate clinic, we ensure that you experience minimal discomfort throughout your waxing session. You may feel slightly sore and see a small amount of redness following your treatment. This is completely normal and usually disappears after a few hours.

Our therapists will apply a post-wax lotion to reduce any discomfort and provide you with aftercare advice.

Is waxing the pubic area safe?

For the bikini area, waxing can offer more precise and long-lasting results. Waxing treatments can also be performed during pregnancy and while on your monthly cycle. If you are on your menstrual cycle, please ensure you wear a tampon during your appointment. It’s worth noting that you may experience more sensitivity than normal.

Our therapists are here to make you as comfortable as possible. If you have sensitive skin or you’re unsure about whether waxing is right for you, please contact our friendly Southgate clinic team.

Warm wax vs hot wax

Warm waxing involves applying a thin layer of wax across a small section of skin. A disposable wax strip is then pressed down over the wax and swiftly peeled off to remove the hair from the root.

At a slightly higher temperature, hot wax is applied to the skin and left to cool and harden. Hot wax has a slightly thicker consistency and is applied densely on the skin. Once cooled, the wax is peeled off without a waxing strip removing unwanted hair. Hot wax is most effective on stubborn and coarse hair, as it opens the pores to help remove hair with minimal discomfort.

How can I prepare for a waxing appointment?

To help you get the most from your waxing treatment, we advise that hair growth should be at least 2-3mm in length on your intimate areas and 3-4mm in length for all other body areas.

Please don’t expose your skin to sunlight or use a sunbed at least 24 hours before your waxing appointment.

How much does waxing cost?

Prices for waxing at our Southgate clinic start from as little as £6 to remove hair from the upper lip through to £30 for a Brazilian/Hollywood wax.
