Microneedling is the process of puncturing the skin with microneedles.  This trend has become popular in recent times, but it actually came about over fifty years ago.

Microneedling can target a variety of skin problems such as wrinkles, scarring, hyperpigmentation, dullness, cellulite, stretch marks, and much more. Many have turned to this trend because of its success.

A study from 2009 showed that this procedure was a success with 80% of participants. Those involved in the study saw their scars fade away and therefore, rated the treatment as “Excellent”.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling can be done with either a Dermaroller or a Dermapen. Both devices have tiny needles on them which are smaller than the pores on the skin. These needles are used to prick the top layer of the skin.  The punctures on the skin allow for better absorption of skin care products. Microneedling is usually done in conjunction with potent serums that treat various skin conditions.

The holes made by these devices allow the products to go deep into the skin and give better results. These tiny pinpricks also force the skin to regenerate itself quicker.  These tiny tears to the skin send signals that there are injuries on the surface and our skin kicks into action.

In order to heal those injuries, more collagen and elastin need to be produced. This process then causes the skin to plump up. As a result, fine lines, scars, and pores reduce in appearance.

Here are some things you should know before booking your appointment:

  1. Pain tolerance

Many clients worry about the pain of having such a treatment done. The process can in fact cause mild discomfort. Numbing creams are usually applied to the skin before it begins. Once the procedure starts, the needles can hardly be felt. Every client is different and so you may find certain parts of your face are more sensitive than others.

  1. Slight inflammation

Unlike other cosmetic procedures, Microneedling requires no “downtime”. There is a bit of redness left behind after the treatment is done, but that’s it. You should also know that there is a chance of some pinpoint bleeding too. In a couple of hours, all the inflammation should come down and within 24 hours, you can get back to your usual skincare routine.

  1. Silky smooth skin

Right after the treatment, your skin will feel better than it’s ever felt. Microneedling can really soften the skin as well as reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. The skin regeneration also causes your skin to glow and removes all signs of dull skin.

  1. Itchy  or sensitive skin

Clients who have sensitive skin generally find their skin itchy after a day or two. You may find your skin sensitive to the touch as well. These are all normal after-effects of this therapy. You won’t be in unbearable discomfort, but it’s always good to inform clients of what they can possibly face.

  1. Deeper penetration of skin care

You will see a visible difference with the way your old skincare routine works after your Microneedling treatment. Your pores will feel ultra clean and therefore the products will be better absorbed into your skin.
