Despite many of us being locked up in our houses due to lockdown restrictions, it’s important to get out and about to stay active and get some fresh air, even though in the last week or so the temperature has plummeted…
Due to the cold weather in winter, many of us face dry skin related issues which can be uncomfortable and sore. We’ve come up with some tips below to help you brave the cold weather and to prevent these issues.
Don’t Forget SPF
Even though the sun may not seem to be out due to the low temperatures- it still is! You should be protecting yourself all year round as the sun’s rays in winter can be just as harmful as in summer!
The SPF will help to prevent against premature ageing, skin cancer and hyper pigmentation which can be difficult to get rid of. If you do find that you have signs of hyperpigmentation or premature ageing, our Microneedling or Chemical Peel treatment that we offer at the clinic can be really effective at combatting these concerns.
Also, remember to use plenty of lip balm, preferably one with an SPF included too to also protect your lips.
Switch Up Your Cleanser
Consider switching from a gel or foam cleanser to a cream or balm based cleanser to provide more hydration in your skincare routine.
A cleansing balm can be a great first step in your double cleansing routine. Cleansing balms help to melt away stubborn makeup and deep-clean the pores without leaving your skin feeling tight and irritated.
Remember To Exfoliate
Exfoliation helps to slough off dead skin cells and replenish the skin by encouraging new skin cell production. It’s important to exfoliate your whole body too, not just your face! Exfoliating twice per week should be enough, as any more than this may leave your skin feeling sore and irritated- it’s important to find the right balance! A great exfoliating treatment that we offer at the clinics is Microdermabrasion.
By exfoliating twice per week it also helps to increase the efficiency of your moisturisers. This is because without any dead skin cells blocking the way, the moisturisers are able to go deeper into the skin and do their job properly.
For the face, we would recommend a liquid exfoliant rather than a physical scrub. These tend to be more effective at de-clogging the pores and removing dead skin cells without causing any micro tears in the skin.
Hydrate & Moisturise
Whilst in the cold weather, drinking tea and hot chocolate (or mulled wine) seems like a great thing to do to stay warm and cosy, it’s also important to keep the H2O coming through. By drinking more water, it helps to boost the skin’s moisture levels from within and prevent water loss. This hydration in turn helps to give you radiant and glowing skin!
In addition to this, it’s crucial that you continue to use moisturiser after cleansing. You may also want to consider switching up your regular moisturiser to a slightly richer one during the colder months.
Most importantly, take care and stay safe in the cold weather!
