“Where shall I go for my aesthetic treatments”? This is one of the burning questions that may people ask themselves… As the demand for non-surgical treatments surges, so does the number of aesthetic practitioners popping up all over the country. In many people’s eyes, the aesthetics industry in the UK still lacks certain regulations. Some people within the industry believe that non-medics should be banned from carrying out aesthetic treatments all together. In our opinion, it is always advisable to choose a doctor lead clinic for your treatments. This Blog Post will tell you some of the main benefits of doctor lead clinics. Your face is precious, and it is better to be safe than sorry!
Doctor Qualifications
One of the main benefits of choosing a doctor lead clinic, is that you can rest easy knowing that your practitioner is a qualified doctor. This means that they have extensive knowledge about facial anatomy, the vascular system and are aware of any “no-go” zones. Without this knowledge, you may be at a higher risk of complications such as a vascular occlusion. Whilst this complication is rare, it occurs the most when patients are in the hands of an inexperienced non-medical professional.
You will also have the reassurance of knowing that your doctor is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). This organisation enables doctors to be able to practice within the UK. If you are unsure of your practitioner’s credentials, you can ask them for their GMC number to check their registration.

Prescriber
In addition to this, a doctor will hold the correct licensing to prescribe certain products, which non-medics do not have. This includes products such as hyaluronidase and anti-wrinkle injections. Hyaluronidase is used to dissolve dermal filler in the case of an emergency such as a vascular occlusion, or just when you wish to have the filler removed. This is a common procedure for those who have suffered filler migration.
If your practitioner does not have this licence and you have a vascular occlusion, you will have to wait until they are able to receive the hyaluronidase prescription from their prescriber. This will take extra time and may lead to the side effects of the vascular occlusion becoming more severe, as this complication needs to be treated right away.
Aesthetic Eye
A benefit of choosing a doctor with many years of experience for your treatments, is that they will have developed an experienced aesthetic eye. This means that they will be able to ensure that your treatment goals align with what is best for your features. This may include suggestions as to how you can achieve a more balanced profile through the addition of dermal filler, or it may simply be that they will be able to tell you honestly when they believe it is time for you to press pause on your aesthetic treatments.
At the end of the day, it is in both yours and the doctor’s best interests to recognise when enough is enough and to make sure that the results stay as natural as possible.
Consultation
Prior to treatment at the doctor lead clinic, you should also be offered a thorough consultation. This consultation will allow you the chance to discuss your concerns and treatment goals with the doctor.
The doctor will in turn be transparent and make you aware of any possible side effects, risks and mention the appropriate aftercare.
There should not be any rush or pressure for you to have the treatment. The doctor should take their time to make sure that you are fully comfortable before you go ahead with the treatment.
If you would also like to read up about the aftercare for our different procedures, you can find this information on our dedicated treatment pages.
