Getting rid of a double chin is one of the burning questions on everyone’s lips. Especially since the rise in zoom calls from unflattering angles, it has made many people hyper-aware of their faces and unhappy with the pocket of extra fat underneath the chin. In this Blog Post, we’re going to tell you the treatments we offer at our doctor-lead skin clinics which can help to diminish your double chin for good!
What is a Double Chin?
A ‘double chin”, also known as the submental fat, is a layer of excess fat underneath the chin area. Everyone has some fat underneath their chin, however on some people it is more noticeable than others.
Genetic factors can determine where you store the most body fat and for some people this may be the chin. As you cannot spot reduce fat, you may have a double chin despite having a healthy lifestyle. This can be discouraging for some people and lead them to consider surgical options such as liposuction. Luckily though, there are many non-surgical alternatives which can still give you the results you are after!
Double Chin or Loose Skin?
A double chin may also be mistaken for loose skin. Loose skin can occur after weight loss or can just occur as a result of the ageing process. This is because as we age, our skin loses the vital elastin and collagen which are responsible for keeping our skin tight, supple and youthful. Luckily, our Profhilo and microneedling treatments are great at combatting this concern.
Profhilo is our latest injectable anti-ageing treatment. It involves a series of hyaluronic acid based injections, which gives the skin an influx of hydration and rejuvenates the area. The treatment also stimulates the skin’s natural production of elastin and collagen, leading to tighter and more youthful skin. Check out our Profhilo treatment video here.
Microneedling on the other hand is a skin treatment, which consist of multiple tiny channels being made in the skin with a device containing fine and sterile needles. This treatment tricks the skin into thinking that it is injured. This then results in the skin repairing itself with skin that is richer in collagen and elastin. You can take a look at some of our microneedling skin tightening results here.
Aqualyx is our newest fat reduction treatment at Simply Clinics. It offers a non-surgical alternative to liposuction at a much affordable price point.
Aqualyx works through a series of injections into the area of concern. These injections contain a fat dissolving agent, which work instantly to break down and dissolve the fat cells. The fat cells are then broken down and expelled by the body’s natural elimination processes shortly after treatment. The results from Aqualyx are permanent as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained. Here is one of our most incredible chin transformations with Aqualyx:
3D Lipo is another fat reduction treatment that we offer at our award-winning clinics. Whilst 3D Lipo is mainly carried out to target excess fat, cellulite and loose skin on the body, we also have an attachment at our Hammersmith clinic which allows us to treat the chin area.
Using the process of cryolipolysis, this treatment works to freeze the fat cells, causing them to die and be expelled from the body. Results from this treatment are instant and noticeable from the first round, however we usually recommend repeat treatments in order to see the best results.
This treatment is the perfect alternative for those who are not a fan of needles!
Chin & Jawline Filler
Dermal filler has many uses and is amazing at sculpting, plumping and enhancing certain facial features… But did you know that dermal filler can be added to the chin and jawline to improve the appearance of a double chin?
Sometimes, the submental fat can be more noticeable due to having a weaker chin and soft jawline. This is when your chin recedes less than the aesthetic ideal and your jawline lacks definition. Chin filler and jawline filler can be used in conjunction with each other to achieve a sculpted and defined look, or it may be that only one of them is needed to achieve the most optimal results.
Chin filler can also be used to “balance” the profile, as seen in this before and after image:
Profile balancing is a fundamental part of aesthetics treatments, as it is so important to ensure that all of the features of the face align nicely together, to avoid certain areas looking too big or out of proportion. We recently wrote a Blog Post about profile balancing which you can read here.
